Funeral services for Shirley A. Grewing of Iola, whose death Friday was published in Saturday’s Register, were this afternoon at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk officiated. Burial was in Kincaid Cemetery.
She was born Dec. 20, 1928, in Colony, the daughter of Leon and Laura (Smith) Persinger. She graduated from Kincaid High School and worked in Kansas City for a year before returning to marry Edwin F. Grewing in 1947. They farmed together west of Mildred and raised seven children before he died Dec. 9, 1978. She later moved to Iola.
She retired from Allen County Social and Rehabilitation Services in 1994, after which she devoted her time to learn new computer skills, enjoyed the birds and flowers in her big yard, cooked for family get-togethers and entertained her grandchildren and their little ones. She had lived at Windsor Place Nursing Home since 2007.
She is survived by three daughters, Colleen Dobbins, Alexandria, Va., Lorrita and her husband, Lonny Moorehouse, and Frances and her husband, Steve Kinzle, both of Iola; three sons, Frank and his wife, Pattyjo, Dave and his wife, Teresa, and Clay and his wife, Lonna, all of rural Mildred; a brother, Paul Persinger, Baldwin; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
A son, Matt (Shari) Grewing, died in an auto accident in 1988.
