Glenn Allen Hartwig, 52, Chanute, passed away Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016 at his home.
Glenn was born on Dec. 26, 1963 in Putnam, Conn., the son of Billie Eugene and Ethel (Bugbee) Hartwig.
On Dec. 26, 1991, Glenn married Anne Orozco in Yates Center. From this marriage, three children were born, Damen, Dannah and Dane Hartwig.
Glenn was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute. He was a hard worker and spent numerous years at Nu-Wa before starting work at Monarch Cement Company in Humboldt. He worked there the last 15 years before taking early retirement due to illness in January of this year. He was very responsible and dedicated to his work and family, but a kid at heart who loved having fun and was known as a prankster. Glenn was a family man, the best husband and dad. He loved the simple things in life such as spending time in the country and fishing with his family. His very first true love was football and watching his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, on game days. He participated with the Chanute Youth Football Club and enjoyed spending time coaching his children in various activities. He was very competitive and managed to turn everything into a competition. He continued with that competitive spirit right up until his passing, where he fought hard until the very end.
His wife survives, as do his mother, Ethel Hartwig; children, Damen, Dannah and Dane Hartwig, all of the home; brothers, Mark Hartwig and Bill Hartwig, both Yates Center; sisters, Cheryl Cook, Chanute, and Jo-Ann Curtis, Yates Center; uncles, Charlie and Helen Hartwig, Humboldt, and Neil Hartwig, Humboldt; and numerous othe aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
Glenn was preceded in death by his father, Billie Hartwig.
A Visitation will be held at Countryside Funeral Home-Johnson Chapel at 101 N. Highland St. in Chanute from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Rosary will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute, KS, followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow directly at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Chanute. Memorials have been suggested to Chanute Youth Football and St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital and may be left with he funeral home.
