Former Carlyle resident Gladys M. Kisner, whose death on Tuesday and funeral services were published in Thursday’s Register, was born Sept. 14, 1925, in rural Carlyle, to Roy and Clara (Morris) Harling. She graduated from Iola High School in 1943.
On Feb. 20, 1943, she married James T. Kisner in Chanute. They made their home in the Carlyle area most of their married life. She worked for Countryside Estates Nursing Home and then Gates Rubber Company for 15 years before she retired. Her husband died on Oct. 31, 1998.
She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Iola. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader.
She is survived by three sons, Neil, Neodesha, Richard, Rogersville, Mo., and Tom, Des Moines, Iowa; a daughter, Nancy Smith, Custer City, Okla.; a sister, Lois Funston, Yakima, Wash,; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Harling, and a sister, Kathryn Keenum.
