The Rev. George Monroe Fleming, 89, of Chanute died Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Chanute Health Care Center from complications of a stroke.
He was born Dec. 14, 1920, in Kansas City, Mo., to Andrew Monroe and Dorothy Woodbridge Fleming. He graduated from high school in Cameron, Mo., and from Midwest Bible and Missionary Institute, Salina, (now Calvary Bible College and Seminary, Kansas City, Mo.). He was ordained to the ministry in the Baptist Church at Mulvane on Aug. 29, 1943. He served as assistant pastor to the Rev. Molzahn in Hastings, Neb., and as minister of American Baptist Churches in Gypsum, Hanston, Stafford, Caney, Hugoton, Kingman and Humboldt.
He liked model railroads, short wave radio and photography.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma Hutchison Fleming, Chanute; a son, Dr. Timothy Woodbridge Fleming and his wife, Dr. Marsi Liddell, Greeley, Colo.; stepchildren, Linda and her husband, Farhad Azima, Kansas City; Beth Gray and her husband, Bill, Newton; Bill Hutchison, Honduras, Central America; Nancy and her husband, Dr. David Richman, Hutchinson, and David Hutchison, Chanute; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A sister, Dorothy Belle Fleming, and his first wife, Ruth Nadine Compton Fleming, died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Chanute. Burial will be in Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, Neb.
