Marvin “Gene” Dickerson, 86, Bronson, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at Moran Manor.
He was born Aug. 6, 1928, in Fort Scott, the son of Archie White Dickerson and Ora Ethel Edgel Dickerson. He worked as a truck driver prior to entering the U.S. Army. He married Hazel Maxine Stewart on Dec. 31, 1950, in Bronson. After the service, he worked as a private contractor and later as an equipment operator for the city of Anchorage, Alaska. After moving back to Bronson, he worked on the farm. He enjoyed playing baseball and bowling, often traveling to tournaments. He was mechanic and occasionally raced circle track. He was the 1967 Cross Country Snowmobile world champion. He was a member of the Bronson Ruritan and the Bronson Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine; a son, Joe Dickerson and wife, Paula, Bronson; a brother, Norman, and wife, Bev, Orlando, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Norbert Moewald, San Francisco; a sister, Meredith Jones, Fort Scott; a grandson, Tristan Dickerson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Theresa Moewald, a granddaughter, Jordan Bailey Dickerson, a brother-in-law, Bob Jones; as well as his parents.
The Rev. Dr. James Stigall and Pastor Chub Bolling will conduct memorial services at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bronson Methodist Church. Private family burial will be at a later date in the U.S. National Cemetery, Fort Scott. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 o’clock Friday at the Cheney Witt Bronson Chapel.
