Frances Elizabeth Snodgrass, 94, Toledo, Ohio, passed away Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at Northwest Ohio Hospice. She was born on Nov. 22, 1921, to Earnest F. and Johanna (Libutzky) Bergman in Paola. Frances was married to her high school sweetheart, Leslie R. Snodgrass Jr., on Jan. 25, 1942, in Iola. Les preceded her in death in 2001.
Frances grew up in Iola, graduating from Iola High School in 1940 and attended Iola Junior College. Frances worked at Boeing Airplane Company in Wichita during WWII and as a school librarian when her children were small in Kansas City. After moving to Toledo, Frances started working as a bank teller at First National Bank of Toledo in 1963. Over time, she was promoted to bank training officer where she was responsible for the training and education of all new bank personnel. While Frances worked full time, she devoted the majority of her free time to her two children and her husband. Frances and Les loved to travel; they had many wonderful trips outside of the U.S. including to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Europe and to all 50 states of the United States. After retirement, they enjoyed playing golf and bridge. During the last 13 years of her life she lived at the Woodlands and Sunset House. She was a member of Epworth Methodist Church in Toledo. She was known for her love of her family, enjoyment of playing bridge, her sense of humor, and her love of life.
Frances is survived by her two children, Duane Snodgrass (Jane Glick), Sylvania, Ohio, and Anita Clavier (Steve Nickenig), Greensboro, Ga.; her three grandsons, Brian Snodgrass (Kathleen), Greg Clavier (Emily McGuire) and Alan Snodgrass (Amy); and her three great-grandchildren, Kate Snodgrass, Ben Snodgrass and Timothy Clavier with another one due in October. In addition to her husband Les, Frances was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Melva Lee.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey) Toledo, OH 43623. Private interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park, Sylvania, Ohio. The family invites friends to a Memorial Service Friday in the Community Room at the Sunset House, 4020 Indian Rd., Toledo.
