Floyd Leo Ladd, 92, Humboldt, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at the Hospice House in Olathe.
Floyd was born Dec. 6, 1924, the son of Ennis and Alta Ladd, at their home southwest of Humboldt. He grew up attending Mound Valley grade school in Woodson County and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1942. He started farming southwest of Humboldt after high school.
Floyd met Bonnie J. Bradford at the skating rink and they were married on Nov. 11, 1951, at First United Methodist Church in Chanute. They continued to farm a half mile from where Floyd grew up for over 50 years and he was a third generation farmer. After moving to Humboldt in 2008, Floyd continued to monitor the farm activity west of town from his living room easy chair along with taking drives to the farm and participating in the Maple Grove men’s coffee group.
He was an active volunteer with the Perry Township Community School Board, Humboldt Co-op, M.R.B. 4-H Club leader, Woodson County Extension Council and Chanute FUMC committees throughout the years. Floyd enjoyed playing with and joking with children and shared his special sense of humor with all.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings Marie Ladd, Carl Ladd, Florence (Russell) Miller and Warren (Irene) Ladd.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Ladd, Humboldt, sons, Alan (Christy) Ladd, Atlantic, Iowa, and Bruce (Nina) Ladd, Shawnee; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Brian (Jillian) Ladd, Hannah, Henry and Ruth, Overland Park, Eric (Jill) Ladd, Kinley and Brooke, Manhattan, Drew (Kate) Ladd and Landon, Olathe, Candace Ladd, Kansas City, Mo., Anna Ladd, Ann Arbor, Mich., and Grace Ladd, Norman, Okla. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Greta Ladd, Humboldt.
Visitation will be 5:30-7 p.m. Friday at Countryside Funeral Home in Humboldt. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Chanute. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Humboldt. Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.
