Evelyn Lorrene Leonard Pollman, 101, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at Heritage Health Care in Chanute, surrounded by her four children.
Evelyn was born March 3, 1916, in a farmhouse west of Humboldt. She was the daughter of Charles Gottlieb and Bertha Amanda Beckett Leonard.
She attended grade school at New York Valley and Prairie Flower Schools in Woodson County and Humboldt Junior High and two years at Humboldt High School with the class of 1934.
On Oct. 11, 1936, she and Carl Frederick Pollman were married at her parents’ farm home west of Humboldt. Five children were born to this union.
In 1950, Evelyn was baptized at First Baptist Church in Humboldt where she was a faithful and active member of the church.
Evelyn was a homemaker who loved to cook, bake, sew and can vegetables from Carl’s huge gardens.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Duane Pollman (Wanda), Olathe; daughters, Janice McCullough (Charlie), Sharon Perez (Richard) and Nelda Moore (Jerry), all of Humboldt; grandchildren, Carri Pollman Cline (Curt), Overland Park, Dwan McCullough Beaman (Leroy), Lawrence, Clifton McCullough (Emily), Ottawa, Mark Perez, Chanute, Melissa Moore Hunter (Brian), Humboldt, and Amanda Moore Murphy (Joe), Farlington; great-grandchildren, Carlee and Cameron Cline, Isaac, Noah and Aiden McCullough, Andrea Perez Hoelting (Brent), Brett and Kelsey Perez, Laken and Morgan Hunter, Jacey, Jarett and Javen Murphy; great-great-grandchildren, Kamryn Duecy and Kannon and Lincoln Hoelting; many nieces and nephews; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Carl, in 2005; her son, Lyle, in 1997; her parents; two brothers, Calvin and William Leonard; and infant sister, LaDonna Faye Leonard.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Humboldt First Baptist Church. A service will follow at 2 o’clock, with interment immediately after at Mount Hope Cemetery in Humboldt.
