Evelyn R. Blake Calhoon, 93, Iola, died Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Allen County Regional Hospital.
Evelyn was born Nov. 7, 1920, in Liberty, Mo., the daughter of Sterling Orbie and Bertha May (Stockham) Britton. She grew up in the Mosby and Excelsior Springs, Mo., areas.
On March 11, 1944, Evelyn married Rev. Harold L. Blake and they moved to Iola in 1951. She worked at the Iola Chamber of Commerce before beginning her career in banking at Iola State Bank. Mr. Blake preceded her in death April 8, 1972. Evelyn and A. Merle Calhoon were married Feb. 14, 1994. He died May 12, 1997.
Survivors include three children, Penny Lee Kafka, Reisterstown, Md., Harold Lee Blake and wife Jeanie, Ennis, Texas, and Larry G. Blake, Portland, Ore.; two step-children, Larry Calhoon and wife Sheri, Chanute, and Sharon Phillips and husband Bob, Wichita; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one granddaughter and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel, Iola. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, at the chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Chanute.
