Elsie Lavon Leake, 90, of Humboldt died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, at Heritage Health Care Center in Chanute.
She was born April 6, 1920, in Bronson, to Robert and Alice (McGuire) Morris. She graduated from Iola High School in 1937.
On Aug. 3, 1937, she married Roy W. Leake. They made their home in the Iola area. He died May 2, 1962.
She worked as a nurse’s aide for several years and then for Berg Manufacturing before her retirement. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, games, reading, going on trips and caring for animals.
She is survived by five sons, David and his wife, Gayla, Amargosa Valley, Nev., Roy Jr., Humboldt, Scott and his wife, Lorena, Mapleton, and Steven and his wife, Linda, and Jack and his wife, Laurie, Iola; four daughters, Jane Gilbert and her husband, Lee, and Mary Carter and her husband, Harry, Overland Park, Barbara Moorehouse and her husband, Roy, Humboldt, and Pat Kress and her husband, John, Piqua; a sister, Rosalie Serl, Ontario, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Four brothers, four sisters, a grandchild and a great-great-grandchild, died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Iola.
