Elmer “Mac” McDermeit was born Feb. 10, 1933 in Ringwood Okla. Mac passed away on Thursday, Oct., 1, 2015. At the age of 8 his family moved to Colony where he met his childhood sweetheart Patricia Boone in third grade and later married her on Dec. 5, 1950 in Iola.
From 1951 to 1953, he attended Allen County Junior College on a basketball scholarship. Upon graduating with a two year degree, he began teaching and coaching basketball at Welda Junior/Senior High School and later completed his bachelor of science and master of science in education degrees from Emporia State University. A portion of Mac’s 42-yr education career included elementary principal of Udall, Cassody, Rosalia, El Dorado (Oil Hill/Venora and Grandview Elementary) and La Cygne.
Family will gather with friends at 11 a.m. on Tuesday to celebrate his life at First United Methodist Church. Carlson Funeral Home is serving the family.
