On Feb. 7, 2020, Elmer Adolph Henry Gleue passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord at his home while surrounded by family.
Elmer was born in Bremen, on June 25, 1924. He was the sixth child of seven children. Born to Fred H. Gleue and Alwine (Riggert) Gleue.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Hermansburg Lutheran Church in Bremen. He went to high school for one year in Hanover. Elmer’s parents and family moved to Coffey County in 1940. He attended Le Roy High School and graduated in 1943.
Elmer married Illa Rhue Berry on Aug. 15, 1948. To this union, four children were born: Sandra (Kent) Gunlock, Douglas (Karen) Gleue, Debra Erhart, and Gregory (Penny) Gleue, all of Le Roy, six grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Elmer served in the National Guard. He was one of the founding members of the Le Roy Cooperative Association. He served 20 years on the board of the Federal Land Bank of Emporia. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church for 81 years with participation in the choir and as a church officer. He spent 71 years doing the thing he loved, farming. He based his life on faith, family, and farming.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at St. John Lutheran Church in Aliceville. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the St. John Lutheran Church or Hand in Hand Hospice and may be sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, P.O. Box 277, Burlington, KS 66839.
