Elizabeth Ruth “Sue” Immel, 99, Iola, died Friday, July 31, 2015, at the Allen County Regional Hospital in Iola.
Sue was born March 9, 1916, in Iola, the daughter of James and Ethel ( Horton ) Reid. She graduated from Iola High School and the University of Kansas where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. On April 2, 1939, she married Howard M. “Tony” Immel. After Tony completed his military duty in WWII they made their home in Iola. They enjoyed traveling, KU sports, and golf. He preceded her in death Oct. 27, 2010.
Sue enjoyed making crafts, growing flowers, and playing bridge. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, the Unity Club, P.E.O., and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors are her two sons, James M. Immel and wife Carol, Iola, and John J. Immel and wife Sheila, Lawrence; grandchildren, Jay Reid Immel, James M. Immel, Jr., Jodie Kaufman, Jamie Reid Turner, and Jennifer Oldridge; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a 4-year-old brother, Horton Reid, and a sister, Jane McGrew.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel with burial in Highland Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Friends of the Bowlus or Wesley United Methodist Church and they may be left with the Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel.
