Earl Leroy “Pete” Roberts, Jr., 58, Gas, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Forest, Miss.
Pete was born July 30, 1956, at Fort Carson, Colo., the son of Earl Leroy and Nadine Louise (Gonzales) Roberts, Sr. His father was in the U.S. Air Force so the family moved following his career. They were stationed in Alaska for many years where he learned to hunt.
In 1982, Pete married Laura J. Crail and they have always made their home in the Iola area. He worked as an oil field worker in southeast Kansas for many years before becoming an over the road truck driver. He was currently employed by Beebe Trucking.
He was an avid bow hunter and enjoyed touring on his motorcycle and working with wood. While his sons were growing up, he served as a Den leader and coached soccer. He never missed his sons’ ballgames.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Laura Roberts; two sons Chris Roberts, Osawatomie, and Justin Roberts, Chanute; his mother Nadine Roberts, Broken Arrow, Okla.; one sister, Carol Deering, Broken Arrow, Okla.; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Cremation has taken place.
Celebration of life services will be at 6 p.m., Thursday, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola, with visitation to follow.
