E. Dwayne Meadows, 84, of Iola died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at Allen County Hospital.
He was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Peru, to Ernest Ralph and Verna Naomia (Brown) Meadows. He attended school in Peru and graduated from Sedan High School. He then took business courses at Independence Community College. He did public accounting for many years as well as managing car washes.
On Dec. 31, 1948, he married Elsie Robison. They lived in southeast Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma where they reared their five children.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Allen County Country Club. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge.
On Oct. 1, 1999, he married Betty Grundy Johnson in Sedan where they lived for seven years before moving to Iola. They spent several winters in south Texas where they enjoyed golfing. Golfing was his passion, and he played 12 years after retirement in the Southeast Kansas Senior Men’s tournaments.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Mike, Columbus, and Kelley and his wife, Ellen, Joplin, Mo.; three daughters, Vickie Brammer, Santa Ana, Calif., Rory Meadows and Deirdre Oliver and her husband, Howard, Gold Beach, Ore.; a stepson, Robert Johnson, Lake Lotawana, Mo.; a brother, Charles and his wife, Jane, Sedan; two sisters, Charlene Chamberlain and her husband, Bob, Rogers, Ark., and Margaret McAfee and her husband, Kent, Del City, Okla.; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Cary Mae Lesslie.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Sedan’s United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.
