Dr. Glenn Vernon Carney, 81, of Iola died Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at his home.
Glenn was born Oct. 26, 1930, in Novelty, Mo., the son of Jesse and Iva (Barnhart) Carney. The family moved to Kansas and he graduated from Nickerson High School in 1949, McPherson College in 1954 and the Kansas City University of Medicine and Bio Sciences in 1956. He practiced medicine in St. Louis, Mo., before moving to Iola in 1958. He retired from his profession on Dec. 30, 1999, after 42 years of service as a doctor.
He was married to Phyllis Marie Hayes in Bland, Mo., in 1959.
She survives as do two children, Mark Alan, Emporia, and Nancy Jean Todd and her husband, John, Olathe; one brother, Richard and his wife, Joyce, Brevard, N.C.; grandchildren, Michael David Mallery and his companion, Sarah Enslinger, Jacob Carney Todd, Alexander John Todd, Marah Elizabeth Carney and Jessica Todd Mooney and her husband, Wade; and great-grandchildren, Caitlin Marie Mooney and Cooper Michael Mallery.
A private family burial was held at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Highland Cemetery in Iola. The Rev. Earl Bell officiated.
The family request no flowers or memorials.
