Dr. Ellis Potter passed away at his home in Mission, Kan., on March 28, 2025.
He is survived by his beloved spouse of 58 years, Jane Potter; children, Jim Potter (Amy) and Julie Mercer (Kieren); and grandchildren, Hayden Potter, Justine Mercer, Kael Mercer, and brother Don Potter (Lynda).
Dr. Potter, an optometrist, practiced in Iola for over 30 years, and was an active member of the Iola Rotary Club.
Ellis held many leadership positions within the Kansas Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association, Rotary, Rotary International and VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity) International.
He received many awards and accolades during his professional career as an optometrist as well as his philanthropic activities. He was always interested in learning and lived a life through service.
Through his many travels and projects, Ellis provided much needed support to communities in need and touched many lives. He believed in “Service above Self” and practiced this every day.
Ellis loved the Kansas Jayhawks, pottery, traveling and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He will be missed by all.

A Celebration of Life will take place on April 22. Visitation will be held at 10:15 a.m. A Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m., at Church of the Resurrection, Leawood Wesley Covenant Chapel, Building C, 13720 Roe Ave., Leawood.
