Dorthea Jean (Trout) Leigh, 86, of Iola died Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at her home, Tara Gardens in Iola.
She was born Dec. 18, 1924, in Iola, to Walter H. and Barbara A. (Leibold) Trout. She grew up in Iola and graduated from Iola High School in 1943.
On May 29, 1943, she married Lawrence Lorraine Leigh. They later divorced.
She worked as a waitress at Reynolds Drug Store, Menegay’s Restaurant, Daylight Donuts and Pasta Palace. Dorthea enjoyed reading, singing, crocheting, tending her houseplants, playing with her cats and listening to her great-grandchildren sing songs to her.
She is survived by two sons, Gary and his wife, Mary Jane, Independence, Mo., and Glade A. and his wife, Marilyn, Humboldt; a daughter, Cathrine Boskee and her husband, David, Round Rock, Texas; two brothers, Lawrence Trout and his wife, Sharon, Universal City, Texas, and Herb Trout and his wife, Mitzi, Roswell, Ga.; six grandchildren, Darrel and Michelle Leigh, Raytown, Mo., Laurie and David Orr, Greenville, S.C., Adam Leigh, Independence, Mo., Orion and Cheyenne Leigh, rural Humboldt, and Stacy and Chad Christiansen, Billings, Mo.; two stepgrandchildren, Michael and Sheila Wilson, Garnett, and Cynthia Wilson, Wichita; eight great-grandchildren, Sidney, Alexandra, Emily, Paul, Noah, Seth, Hunter and Tre’; and one stepgreat-grandson, Seth; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola. The Rev. David Orr will officiate. Inurnment will be in Highland Cemetery in Iola, at a later date
