Dorothy Mae Binger, 93, Iola, passed away, Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 at the Allen County Regional Hospital, Iola.
Dorothy was an only child born to Emil and Ruthail (Sharp) Hoepker. She was born May 16, 1924, on the family farm southeast of Humboldt. Dorothy attended one year of high school in Humboldt before her family moved to Chanute, where she graduated from Chanute High School. Following school she worked at the Warwick Wax Company as a secretary and then as a typist at the welfare office in Chanute before getting married. On March 20, 1946, Dorothy married John Henry Binger in Iola. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Norma. They made their home on the Binger farm southeast of Humboldt, where Dorothy worked on the farm along with John. John preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 1959. Dorothy remained on the farm until 1967, when she and Norma moved to Iola. Dorothy was an avid baseball fan; she was overjoyed when her Chicago Cubs won the World Series in 2016. She enjoyed working outside and she especially loved growing tomatoes and strawberries.
Her parents, her husband, John, and her son-in-law, Randy DeBacker, preceded her in death.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Norma DeBacker, Iola; two granddaughters, Tonya Keel, Newton, and Kristi Sanchez, Gardner; and seven great-grandchildren, Cody, Jastin and Jadyn and Katlyn, Michael, Nicole, and Gabriel.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Humboldt. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Condolences may be left at www.feuerbornfuneral.com.
