Doris Eileen Conger, 92, of Iola died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at Allen County Hospital in Iola.
She was born March 25, 1918, in Iola, to James Harlen and Ella (Stroup) Atkins. She grew up in Iola.
On Aug. 14, 1935, she married Kenneth E. (Gene) Conger in Iola. They made their home in Iola where she worked at H.L. Miller & Son Dress Factory for about 10 years and then at Staley’s Home Decorators for seven years before her retirement. He died Dec. 5, 1988.
She moved to the Townhouse in 1988, to Guest Home Estates in 2000 and to Iola Nursing Center in 2008.
She was a member of Old-Time Fiddlers, Pickers and Singers.
She is survived by a half brother, Marion Robinson, Wichita; a sister, Ina Mae Ransom, Iola; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A brother, Harlen Atkins, and four sisters, Gladys Creason, Violet Bullock, Grace Tindel and Helen McGowan, died earlier.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Iola.
