Donamae Catherine Erbert, 84, Iola, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015, at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe.
Dona was born Sept. 1, 1931, in a sod house north of Stratton, Colo., the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Colgan) Huppert. She graduated from high school in Kirk, Colo., and on Aug. 2, 1949, married Harold Erbert in St. Charles Catholic Church in Stratton. They lived and farmed in the Burlington, Colo., area until moving to Colorado Springs in 1956. In 1960 they moved to Iola.
Dona was a partner with her husband in the oil business. They also owned and operated Mr. Pizza and Steaks in Iola for seven years and later the Holiday Inn Motel and Restaurant in Chanute for a number of years. He preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 2001.
Dona adored her grandchildren and loved animals. She enjoyed her yard, flowers, and doing needlework. She also did volunteer work at Allen County Hospital.
Survivors are her two sons, Don Erbert and Jerry Erbert, Iola; four daughters, Deanna King, Iola, Debbie O’Connor, Emporia, Luann Rogers, Iola, and Lori Christie, Overland Park; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Francis; a daughter, Julie Zahn; a grandson, Kent Erbert; and a great-grandson, Andrew King.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Allen County Animal Rescue Facility and left with the funeral home.
