Donald Garrison

Donald E. Garrison, 87, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at his home in rural Moran.

Donald was born Dec. 8, 1930, in Bayard to Guy Garrison and Lula M. (Gillham) Garrison, and grew up in the Kincaid and Moran areas. Donald was a lifelong farmer, farming in Allen and Anderson counties. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, and as a young man started traveling to Colorado in October to deer hunt; this hunting tradition lasted for 30 years. When his health no longer allowed him to travel to Colorado, he took up deer hunting in Southeast Kansas alongside his three grandsons.

Donald was united in marriage to Marie Christine Colgin on Feb. 23, 1950, in Iola. During their 68 years together, they made their home in Allen County and lived north of Moran for most of their married life.

Survivors include his wife, Christine; a sister, Betty Ann Holloway of Bushron; daughters Elaine Lucas and husband Wally of Branson, Mo., and Linda Small and husband Robert of Basehor; grandchildren Sharon Lucas and husband Scott of Gladstone, Mo., George Covey of Moran, Michael Thompson and wife Elizabeth of Alexandria, Va., and Jeffrey Thompson of Overland Park; as well as stepgrandchildren Philip Lucas of Wichita, Pam Lucas and Cyndi Long, both of Iola, Brooklyn Wire and husband Jeremy of Chanute and Britt Small of Overland Park. Donald was blessed with great-grandchildren Kylee and Kaitlyn Thompson, Alex and Zane Lucas and Adalyn Covey; and stepgreatgrandchildren Lexie and Colin Long, Lauren Lucas and Drake and Daxson Wire.

Donald was preceded in death by a son, Randy Garrison, his parents, Guy and Lula Garrison, and a brother, L.G. Garrison.

A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Iola. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Mildred.

Memorials are suggested to the Mildred United Methodist Church and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola.
