David James Bauer, 62, Kansas City, Mo., formerly of the Neosho Falls area, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at his home.
David was born Aug. 22, 1950, in Colony, the son of Andy James and Virginia (Long) Bauer. He attended grade school in Neosho Falls and graduated from Yates Center High School. He attended Kansas University, majoring in classical archaeology.
He worked at the KU Library and Warren McElwain Funeral Home in Lawrence, taught history at Rockhurst High School in Kansas City, worked at Jaccard’s Crown Center Jewelry Store, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Helen Spencer Library assistant in reference in Kansas City, taught English to middle school students in Kurashiki, Japan, taught Japanese at Rockhurst College in Kansas City, worked at the UMKC Bookstore and was working for UMKC Miller Nichols Interlibrary Loan.
Survivors are one sister, Marilyn Bauer Butler, her husband, Scott, Offerle, cousins, Linda Long Birk, Burlington and Maleta Long Brockus, Olathe, half-brother Rex Bauer and his wife, Betty, Ottawa and other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Elmer and Kate Long and Ernest “Popsie” and Jacoba Laymon.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday on the UMKC Campus, Miller Nichols Library, Room 303.
