Colleen Kay Pearman, 70, Colony, passed away Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at Iola Nursing Center.
Colleen was born Jan. 23, 1945, in Iola, the daughter of Eugene Samuel and Esther Mabel (Sutterby) Robb. She grew up in Iola and graduated from Iola High School in 1963, Iola Junior College in 1965 and Pittsburg State University, earning her bachelor’s degree in music education. In 1982, she received her master’s in music from PSU, featuring pipe organ performance.
Over her teaching career she taught music at Crest, Moran, Le Roy, Chanute, Stockton and Cottey College as an adjunct professor in piano and organ. She gave private organ and piano lessons over the years in Colony, Iola, Humboldt and Chanute. She has also served as church organist for Humboldt United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church in Iola, First United Methodist Church in Independence and First Presbyterian Church in Chanute.
Besides music, she also enjoyed quilting all of her life, quilting special items for Porthaults Ltd. of New York and Paris. Gardening and growing flowers was another one of her hobbies. Family was very important to Colleen and she enjoyed family reunions and being with her loved ones.
Colleen was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Iola and the American Guild of Organists.
On May 29, 1964, Colleen married Gerald L. Pearman at First Baptist Church in Iola. He survives. She also is survived by her daughter, Sarah Coltrane and husband Nathan, Independence; her son, Morgan Samuel Pearman, Iola; three brothers, E.S. Robb and wife Joan, Iola, Carl Robb and wife Sandra, Iola, and Roger Robb, Hockley, TX; sister-in-law, Margaret Robb, Iola; and three grandchildren, Jonathan, Maurin and Matthias Coltrane.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Don Wayne Robb and John Robb.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, 117 E. Miller Rd., Iola. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Iola. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Memorial gifts to Grace Lutheran Church or the Fisk Organ Fund at PSU may be left with Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
