Cleto Demetrio Coronado, 82, Humboldt, died Friday, May 6, 2011, at his home.
He was born April 26, 1929, in Deerfield, to Catarino and Francisca (Trevino) Coronado. His family moved to Mexico when he was in third grade. He spent much time at a ranch, “El Almagre” near Sierra Mojada, Coahuila, in Mexico, where he acquired the bulk of his growing up and cowboy stories. He loved God, his family and his friends.
He began working at Monarch Cement in the 1950s and married Celia Melendez in Jimenez, Chihuahua, on April 30, 1960. They made their home in Humboldt. They established Coronado’s Expedicion Mexican Restaurant in 1968 in Iola, and he retired from Monarch Cement in 1989. He helped at the restaurant until his health declined.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Humboldt.
His wife of 51 years survives, as does a daughter,Gracie Newman and her husband, Rusty, Humbold; two sons, Cleto Jr. and his wife, Kenyan, Iola, and Phillip, Humboldt; a brother, Prudencio and his wife, Enriqueta, Humboldt; 10 grandchildren, Rustin Newman, Kaleb Newman, Jaime Newman, Sarah Newman, Tessa Coronado, Cristobal Coronado, Caleb Coronado, Veronica “Roni” Coronado, Isiah Coronado, Luke Mato Coronado, Jayce Schomaker and Molly Schomaker; and one great-grandson, Ryker Newman.
He was preceded in death by seven siblings, Hilario Coronado, Maria Hernandez, Hilaria Neri, Rosa Perez, Rita Perez, Lola Perez and Valentina Flores.
Parish rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Wednesday, followed by mass at 10:30, both at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Humboldt The Rev. Bernard Gorges will be the celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Humboldt.
Memorial gifts for the Shriners Hospitals for Children may be left with Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
