Charles A. “Chuck” Gregg, 93, of Gas died Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at the home of his daughter in LaHarpe.
He was born Jan. 26, 1917, in Gas, to John Riley and Asintha Jane (Brooks) Gregg. He graduated from Colony High School in 1936. He then worked for Kerr McFall Garment Company in Iola before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.
After his military duty, he returned to Iola and worked at Cook’s Drug Store and then The Iola Register.
On May 31, 1947, he married Iola Culbertson. They made their home in Iola before moving to Gas in 1949. He retired after working 33 years at The Register. His wife died Aug. 25, 2004.
He is survived by a son, Kirby and his wife, Debi, Iola; a daughter, Penny Ebert and her husband, Phil, LaHarpe; four grandchildren, Gabe Gregg and Kim Gregg, Iola, Brian Ebert, Newton, and Asinthia Marshall, Kansas City; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Five brothers, Ed, Theron, Riley, Alfred and Paul, and two sisters, Lottie and Mammie, died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. Burial will be in Gas City Cemetery with military honors.
