Chris Eugene McVey, age 61, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 surrounded by his family and friends at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville.
Chris was born on July 25, 1957 in Iola, to Vernon Mac and Dorothy (Mann) McVey. He attended and graduated from Marmaton Valley School in Moran.
On July 1, 1979, he married the love of his life Genette Cochran. They made their home in Coffeyville, where he was employed at Kanoma Coop/Bartlett Coop for the last 35 years. Chris never met a stranger and was known for his kind smile and always being there to offer a hand. He enjoyed his family, friends, golfing, work, mowing, a good meal, being the life of the party, but most of all the time he spent with his grandsons who were his pride and joy and thought the world of him.
He is survived by his wife, Genette of the home; daughters, Shalawnda Dumm and husband Travis of Coffeyville, Scottie Harper and husband Tyler of Palm Harbor, Fla.; grandsons Asher and Grayson Dumm; parents Mac and Dottie McVey of Tyro; brother Ron McVey and wife Teresa of Tyro; in-laws Annette and Chris Cole of Moran, and Lori and Gary Amble of Shawnee Mission; and 10 nieces and nephews.
Following Chriss wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. The family will be holding a Celebration of Life the summer of 2019 to honor him. A date will be determined and publicized at a later time. He requested that contributions be made to American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association.
