Charles Ernest “Charlie” Sellman, 67, Iola, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at Kindred Hospital Northland in Kansas City, surrounded by his family.
Charlie was born Dec. 15, 1948, in Iola, the son of Ernest “Bud” and Ruth (Schulze) Sellman. He grew up in Iola and graduated from Iola High School in 1966. He attended Pittsburg State University. On June 6, 1970, Charlie married Debbie McKaig in Iola. They have always made their home in the Iola area. He worked for IMP Boats, the City of LaHarpe and the City of Iola where he read meters and worked in the water department for 33 years, retiring May 29, 2015.
His memberships include the NRA and Calvary United Methodist Church. Charlie loved to fish and hunt with his sons and grandkids.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Debbie Sellman; three sons, Darren Sellman and wife Monica, Iola, Jeremy Sellman and wife Amber, Iola, Jeff Sellman, Melvern; nine grandchildren, Britany Sellman and fiancé Matt Catron, Colorado, Ben Smith, Iola, Cassidy Sellman and fiancé Cory Drake, Yates Center, Tristan Fraker, Iola, Mark Lindsted, El Dorado, Ty Sellman, Iola, Drake Sellman, Iola, Xander Sellman, Iola, and Collin Krone, Humboldt; two great-grandsons, Clayton and Kolten Drake; a sister, Gloria Snyder, Simi Valley, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Karen Muns and husband Frank, Lewisville, Texas; and four nephews, Brek Snyder, Brent Snyder, Brook Snyder and Kevin Payne. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Chapel in Iola. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with burial to follow in the LaHarpe Cemetery.
