Cathy Nelson Cox, 82, long-time resident of the Walnut area and more recently Moran Manor, died Monday, May 21, 2012.
She was born March 27, 1930, in Catawba, Wis., the daughter of John and Christine (Raab) Herber. She grew up on the family dairy farm and graduated from Catawba High School.
She moved to Rockford, Ill., where she married Gene Patrick “Pat” Nelson Oct. 11, 1952. They moved to Kansas in 1958 and settled on a farm north of Walnut. He died in 1972.
Cathy married Dale Cox in 1987. They stayed in the Walnut area. He died in 2002.
She was a member of Hepler Lutheran Church. Cathy enjoyed birds, reading, watching television, cooking, sewing for her children and babysitting her grandchildren and other children.
She is survived by three children, Albert Nelson and Cathy Lunday, both of Stark, Lori Holman and husband Mike, Moran, and Peggy Stewart and Kirby Stokes, LaHarpe; a brother, Henry Herber, Phillips, Wis.; three sisters, Lillian Robinson and Rosemary Schoenfelder and husband Bill, all of Rockford, Ill., and Shirley Marlow, Sussex, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Eileen Yoho, Stark; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two grandsons, Jesse Lee Holman and Raymond Cassingham, a great-grandson, Morgan Raymond Stewart, a son-in-law, David Stewart, and three brothers-in-law, Wayne Yoho, Raymond Marlow and Tex Robinson.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, south of Savonburg.
