Carl Allen Elmore, 86, formerly of Erie, died Monday, May 9, 2016, at Sunset Manor in Waverly.

Carl was born May 25, 1929, in McCune, the son of Harvey and Violet (Wells) Elmore and grew up north of Erie. He spent his early years working in the oil fields and on various farms before settling in as a service technician for Sears and Roebuck for 26-plus years in the Iola area. Carl’s passion was fishing and his pride and joy of his fishing endeavors was a 67-lb. flathead catfish that was caught in the Neosho River.

Carl was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Elmore, and a son, Danny Elmore, a brother Gerald Elmore, a grandson and two granddaughters. Carl is survived by two sons, Tim Elmore and wife Andrea, Justin, Texas, Carey Elmore and wife Christine, El Dorado; four daughters, Peggy Luken and husband Kenny, Gas, Vicky Taber and husband Paul, Reading, Nancy, Wichita, and Judy, Cincinnati, Ohio; three sisters, Ruth Banzett, Barbara Standley and Phyllis Wheat; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

 

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 7, at First Christian Church in Iola. Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola assisted the family. To leave a condolence online, go to  www.iolafuneral.com.
