Brian Wayne Harris Sr., 52, a special education teacher at Iola Middle School, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011 at his home in Hepler. He had been in failing health for 13 years.
He was born Nov. 1, 1959, in Hepler, to Charles William “C.W.” Jr. and Donna Joyce (Brown) Harris. He grew up in Hepler and attended schools in Hepler and Girard. He graduated from Pittsburg State University and was attending Emporia State University seeking a master’s degree in special education.
On April 10, 1981, he married Susan Elaine Curran at Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard.
He enjoyed his family, woodworking and farming. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard, Future Farmers of America Alumni, a 4-H Leader and former Kansas President of the National Farmers Organization.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Sara Corinn Pope and her husband, Josh, Manhattan; sons, Brian Wayne “B. J.” Jr. and his wife, Leslie, Pittsburg and their daughter, Quorynn Amelie Harris; Teague James, Hepler and his girlfriend, Erin King, Manhattan; his mother, Donna Joyce Harris, Hepler; sisters, Melissa Scott, Hepler, and Brenda Elkins, Assaria; brothers, Curt, Doug, Keith, Greg, Chuck and Brett, all of Hepler.
He was preceded in death by his father on Sept. 2, 2001.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard with the Rev. Mark Wenzelburger officiating. Burial will be in the Hepler Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where friends may call after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
