Robert Elliott “Bobby” Smith, 57, son of former Gas and Iola residents John and Mary Smith, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at his home in Beatrice, Neb.
Bobby was born Nov. 21, 1957, in Fairfax, Mo., the son of John Elliott and Mary Delores (Zirfas) Smith. He worked various jobs through the Beatrice State Developmental Center. He enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles.
He is survived by his parents, John and Mary Smith, Fort Scott; four sisters, Teresa Saugstad, Volga, S.D., Donna Fletcher, Sioux Falls, S.D., Valerie Ingle, Van Buren, Ark., and Angela Smith, Kansas City, Mo.; 10 nieces and nephews and 13 great-nieces and great-nephews; and his grandmother, Billie Smith, Fall City, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Lynn Madison, and grandparents Chris Eugene Smith and George and Agatha Zirfas.
The parish rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Iola, followed by the celebration of the mass at 10:30. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Gas.
