Robert James “Bob” Lyons, 82, of Fort Scott died Tuesday, April 20, 2010, from injuries in an automobile accident south of Fort Scott.
He was born Sept. 8, 1927, in Bourbon County, to Thomas Frederick and Nannie Brown Lyons.
He married Virginia Anderson between his U.S. Army and U.S. Navy tours of duty. They divorced in 1962.
He worked in his early years as a railroad telegrapher. He then was self-employed manufacturing waterbeds, at a trampoline center and as a dance instructor. He also owned and operated a nursing home and worked the past 10 years building wood pallets.
He enjoyed fishing, playing pitch, shooting pool and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Survivors include two daughters, Melodee McEndree and her husband, Charlie, Elsmore, and Honey Lea Doan and her husband, David, Houston, Texas; two brothers, Charles “Skip,” Sacramento, Calif., and John, Osage Beach, Mo.; three sisters, Eileen Roloff, Sacramento, Ella Mae Harris, Port Angeles, Wash., and Margie Northrop, Fort Scott; and four grandchildren.
A son, Jeff, a granddaughter, Mandy Cowan, three brothers, Luther, Jack and Lee, and three sisters, Vineta Bowers, Bessie Adamson and Lena Lyons, died earlier.
Chaplain Lloyd Houk will officiate at 10 a.m. Friday funeral services in Cheney Witt Chapel in Fort Scott. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Scott. Military honors will be provided by Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
