Robert Daniel “Bob” Lancaster, 72, of Iola died Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Kansas City Hospice House.
He was born June 15, 1938, in St. Paul, to Cyril Robert and Ellen Marie (Kennedy) Lancaster. He moved with his family to Louisville, Ky. He returned to the Chanute area and graduated from Chanute High School in 1956.
He joined the U.S. Army and served from 1959 to 1962 including time in Germany when the Berlin Wall was being built. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he made his home in St. Paul, Wichita, Dallas, Texas, and the Kansas City area before settling in El Dorado.
On March 6, 1971, he married Margie Ann Hodgens. They made their home in El Dorado before moving to Fort Scott. They had twin daughters before the marriage ended in divorce. He obtained full custody of his daughters. They moved to Humboldt in 1986 and then to Iola in 1988.
He worked as an electrician for Kansas Gas & Electric and retired from Westar Energy in 2000. He enjoyed woodworking and making handmade clocks and lamps out of cedar logs. He also collected junk and had extensive collections of pocket knives, clocks, violins and unusual tools.
He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and attended Truth Church in Iola.
He is survived by his daughters, Shiela Chandler and her husband, Jason, DeQuincy, La., and Sharon Kilby and her husband, Jim, Iola; three grandchildren, Ashley Chandler and Kaitlynn and Hannah Kilby; three siblings, John L., Wichita, Mary K. Stephan, Walnut, and June Roberts, Raytown, Mo.; and many friends.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Fort Scott National Cemetery.
