Beckye Sue Parker, 58, Iola, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at the Allen County Regional Hospital in Iola.

Beckye was born Dec. 20, 1955, in Bethany, Okla. the daughter of Gene and Peggy Sue (Davis) Maitlen. She grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Putnam City West High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree in agriculture from Oklahoma State University and began working for the State of Oklahoma.

On Feb. 14, 1983, Beckye married John D. Parker at her parent’s home in Oklahoma City. They made their home in Waynoka, Okla. where she operated the flower shop they owned, Flowers and Things. They later moved to the family farm at Cushing, Okla. In 2005, they moved to Iola. Beckye worked as a teacher for at-risk students at Iola High School for several years. She was currently the special needs coordinator for SEK Library Systems in Iola.

Her memberships include Trinity United Methodist Church, Kappa Alpha Chapter of Phi Tau Omega Sorority and she was a Noble’s Lady.

Survivors are her husband, John Parker, three daughters, Jessica Parker, Chanute, Kimberly Montgomery, San Antonio, Texas, and Amanda Parker, Jackson, Miss.; her mother Peggy Sue Maitlen, Cushing, Okla.; two brothers, Randall Maitlen and wife, Mary, Cushing, Okla., and Tony Maitlen and wife, Susan, Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Linda Mount and husband, Mike, Edmond, Okla.; two grandsons, Richard and Kirk; and one granddaughter, Keilyjo.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Cremation has taken place.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

Memorials are suggested to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children or Kappa Alpha Chapter of Phi Tau Omega Sorority. Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, assisted the family.
