Avis Della West Richards, 94, of Le Roy, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at Iola Nursing Center.
She was born Sept. 22, 1917, in Northcott, on the family homestead to Logan and Gertrude Shipley West.
She graduated from Le Roy High School and attended both Emporia State Teachers College and Iola Junior College. She was a teacher, homemaker and care giver.
She is survived by her children, Roberta Philips and her husband, Jimmie, Shreveport, La., Bonnie Jones and her husband, Gary, Irving, Texas, and James and his wife, Lori, Le Roy; her grandchildren, Rorry Phillips and his wife, Kristi, Irving, Laura Martin and her husband, Ken, Mascoutah Ill., Robin Bowyer and Jessica Jones, Irving, Trista Edwards and her husband, George, Landon McQuilliams and Dalton Cliffton, Wichita; great-grandchildren, Emma Martin, Reid Phillips, Elizabeth Phillips, Logan Jones, Rhett Bowyer, Caidynce Edwards and James Edwards; a brother, Robert West and his wife, Roberta, Colony; sisters-in-law, Dorothy West, Colony, Lois Slagel, Le Roy, and Mabel Richards, West Covina, Calif.; brother-in-law, Bill Richards, San Diego, Calif.; and many nieces nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Arthur Richards, and brothers, Paul and Lawrence West, and several sisters- and brothers-in law.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Northcott Church east of Le Roy.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Van Arsdale Funeral Home in Le Roy.
Memorials are suggested to Iola Nursing Center and the children’s department of First Methodist Church and Northcott Church.
