Ann Vest, 71, of LaHarpe died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at the home of her daughter in Iola.
Ann was born April 9, 1940, in LaHarpe, to John and Lynn (Conner) Mapes. She grew up in the Moran area.
On Nov. 7, 1956, she married George L. Vest Sr. They lived on several Allen County farms before making their home in LaHarpe. He died Aug. 8, 2004.
Ann enjoyed children and operated a daycare in her home for years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, animals and in her flower garden.
She is survived by three sons, Wendell Sr., LaHarpe, George L. Jr. and his wife, Jan, Girard, and Kenneth, LaHarpe; five daughters, Ruth Seeber and her husband, Dean, Iola, Sandra White and her husband, Merl Hanson, Chanute, Amy Ludlum and her husband, Jerry, Erie, Leona Christine Vest, Carthage, Mo., and Jodie Alexander, Iola; a brother, Clifford “Buddy” Mapes, Burlington; a sister, Mary Knavel, LaHarpe; 19 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cecelia Shears, two brothers, Jimmy and Johnny Mapes, and a sister, Rita Vest.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. Burial will be in LaHarpe Cemetery.
