Alice Louise Grisier, 88, of Yates Center, passed away Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, at Windsor Place in Iola.
She was born Nov. 10, 1928, at Newton, to Harry Samuel Umholtz and Louise Angeline (Deschner) Umholtz. She attended rural schools in Harvey County, and after moving with her family to a Woodson County farm in 1943, attended Yates Center High School.
On April 4, 1948, she was married to Robert E. Grisier and they made their home on the family farm southeast of Yates Center. Alice was a farm wife and homemaker, and became the mother of four boys and a daughter. She enjoyed the hard work and simple rewards of family farming, gardening, preserving food, sewing, quilting, refinishing furniture and woodwork, and serving her church and community in many roles.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 2010; by two brothers, and by a great-granddaughter, Parker Grace Janke.
She is survived by four sons, Richard and Linda Grisier, Joe and Karen Grisier, of Yates Center, George and Sharon Grisier, of Gas, Rodney and Kelley Grisier, of Yates Center; and one daughter, Marcia and Vance Burns, of Clearwater; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ross Umholtz, of LaHarpe, and Earl Umholtz, of Fall River; three sisters, Wilma Strawder, of Inman, Norma Jean Nebergal, of Newton, and Dorothy Nickel, of Anthony; sister-in-law, Mary Joerg, of Manhattan; and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kalida Cemetery, Yates Center. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center.
