Alberta Ann Jeffery, 82, Iola, died Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

Alberta was born Aug. 15, 1934 in Muskogee, Okla. She grew up in Muskogee and graduated from Muskogee Central High School in 1952. She attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a bachelor’s of business administration degree. Alberta was a member of Alpha Delta Pi, Epsilon Pi, Phi Kappa Phi and the Commerce Student Council.

In September 1959, Alberta Married Jack E. Jeffery. They were married in the First Baptist Church in Muskogee. They lived in Tulsa for a brief time before moving to Iola.

Alberta started working for the law office of Apt & Apt in 1960. Alberta was the secretary for the Bowlus Fine Arts Center. Alberta was on the board for the Winslow Scholarship Committee, serving as its secretary/treasurer up until the time of her death.

Alberta and Jack co-founded the Allen County Arts Council in 1965 which is now known as Iola Community Theatre. Alberta and Jack owned Cindy’s Flower Shop until 1974 and later they had a gift shop and catering business.

Alberta was a member of the First Christian Church. She also directed the First Christian Youth Service Choir for a period of time.

Alberta enjoyed performing and working with Community Theatre. Her love for books was unbelievable; you rarely saw her without a book in her hand. Alberta was an accomplished pianist. Family was the most important thing to Alberta and she loved them all unconditionally.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Jeffery of 51 years and her parents Albert and Freda (Perry) Borum.

Alberta leaves behind her daughter, Cindy Kress and husband Larry, LaHarpe; her brother, Fred Borum and wife Sammie, Texarkana, Texas; a nephew, Doug Borum, niece Parkie Soule and a great-niece Kelsie Cigianero.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church in Iola. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.
