Mary Kathleen “Katy” Haire, 85, of Iola died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at her home.
She was born Jan. 15, 1926, in Wetumka, Okla., to Carl and Viola (Banks) Stadalman. The family eventually moved to Herrington where she graduated from high school.
On March 3, 1946, Katy married Hugh L. Haire. They made their home in Emporia, Osborne and Barnes before moving to Iola in 1956. He died Sept. 25, 1995.
She was very artistic and enjoyed doing watercolors, making pottery, quilting, basket weaving and especially creating Hungarian Easter eggs known as pysanky.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola and served as a docent for the Allen County Historical Society.
She is survived by a daughter, Jane Tweedy, Iola; three sons, Bill, Omaha, Neb., Patrick, Humboldt, and Mike, Wichita; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola.
