Bernard A. “Bernie” Smith, 83 of Williamsburg died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at Richmond Healthcare Center in Richmond.
He was born April 3, 1927, in Lebanon, Mo., to Herman and Kate (Haasis) Smith.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed in the Philippines and was honorably discharged as a Tech 5.
On June 16, 1950, he married Alice Marie Kline in Ottawa. She died Nov. 20, 2003.
He was a delivery man and truck driver for Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company. He later was the delivery man for the lumber yard in Ottawa. He retired from All-Star Dairy in Lawrence as a machine and bottle operator. After retirement he farmed.
Survivors include his son, Richard and his wife, Sue (Sue Sicka, formerly of Iola), Parsons; a daughter, Patty Medina, Independence; a sister, Hazel Daniels, Tyler, Texas; five grandsons; and six great-grandchildren.
A son, Bruce, grandson, Kenneth Wayne Smith, and brothers, Paul Stone and Sherman, Gale and Donald Smith, died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory, Ottawa, with the Rev. Bruce Osladil officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Ottawa.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
