First Baptist Church had visitors this week — a mission group from Benton, Ark., which helped with the church’s “Awesome Adventure” Bible school program.
Kids learned through interactive Bible lessons.
“We just want to reach out to the kids and teach them about Jesus,” said Mike Quinn, First Baptist pastor.
This is the second year the mission group came to Iola to work with the First Baptist Church.
“We heard that the church was trying to get a mission church started in LaHarpe and so we contacted brother Mike,” said Ken Bernard, one of the missionaries.
Helping out with the local Bible school is an adventure for the mission group, as well. Members brought food and cooked for themselves, which permitted them to do some other mission work. Wednesday evening they had leftover food and took it to a family in LaHarpe, where the group also helped with Bible school.
Snacks for kids involved in the program were provided by the missionaries, to give the youngsters a better idea of how manage food where there are people in need.
Last year the group gave out about 100 backpacks to children and allowed them to go through and fill the backpacks with school supplies.
“It was designed by God for us to be here in Iola,” Bernard said. “People have been really friendly and good to us.”
The missionary group left for home Friday morning.
