Austin L. Reser, 16, Yates Center, died in a traffic accident late Sunday afternoon on 800 Street about two miles southwest of Humboldt.
He was a passenger in a car driven by Kody A. Ratcliff, 16, Piqua. Ratcliff was transported to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the car ran off the road into a ditch on the east side and struck a tree. The vehicle then caught fire.
Officers said they were uncertain whether seatbelts were in use.
