Events Saturday should prove once again that the softer sex enjoy rugged activities.
The third annual Kansas State Women In The Outdoors (WITO) event kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday and will provide instruction on a number of outdoors activities, from trap shooting, 3-D archery, fly fishing and self defense stations.
The event is once again sponsored by the Kansas First Upland Pioneers chapter out of Iola and the National Wild Turkey Federation and will be on land owned by NWTF member Don Erbert at 2078 S.E. Third Rd. southeast of Le Roy.
A number of seminars are planned throughout the day, including preparing campsites and dutch oven cooking; advanced archery classes on arrow building and tuning; turkey hunting basics; and all-terrain vehicle safety.
In addition are event stations situated throughout the course, regardless of experience level.
Women can practice trap shooting, firing handguns, rifles, chucker shooting, fly fishing and self-defense training.
A silent auction also is in the works.

PARTICIPANTS also will get to meet with Kelsey Konrade of Ashland.
Konrade is a member of the Bass Pro Shops “Next Generation” Team, an Outdoor Channel reality show in wich young outdoorsmen lead participants through a series of outdoor adventures.
Konrade has been hunting, fishing and enjoying the outdoors “for as long as she can remember,” according to an NWTF press release.
When not hunting or fishing, she has spent countless hours assisting her father with his outfitting and guide service. She also takes adults on deer and turkey hunts, but her primary passion is involving youth in such things.

REGISTRATION is $45. To register, call Jennifer Foster at (620) 496-8062 or email to [email protected].
