Tom Williams, in the last year of his first four-year term on the Allen County Commission, filed Friday for re-election to the 2nd District seat.
Williams, a former Kansas Bureau of Investigation special agent, won election to his first term on the commission immediately after retiring as county sheriff. He is a Republican.
Among accomplishments during his first term was leading the way for transfer of countywide ambulance service from the county to Iola.
The Second District has within it the townships of Carlyle, Deer, Elm, Geneva, North Iola and Osage, along with the Second Ward of Iola, and Gas, LaHarpe and Mildred.
The deadline to file for the Aug. 2 primary, or if none arises the general election Nov. 8, is noon June 1.
Also up this year is the Third District seat, held by first-term incumbent Jim Talkington. That district contains South Iola Township, Bassett and the First, Third and Fourth wards of Iola.
Jerry Daniels, rural Humboldt, is in  the middle of his term. He represents the First District, which is the south tier of Allen County and Marmaton Township, including Humboldt, Moran, Elsmore and Savonburg.
Prior to the primary election, the Register will publish comprehensive interviews with candidates for all offices. To date the only primary election assured is for the Republican nomination for sheriff — incumbent Bryan Murphy and Kelley Zellner, Humboldt, have filed; Jared Froggatte, Iola police department detective, is circulating a petition for a place on the GOP primary ballot.
