Iolan Joel Wicoff became the 12th resident to file for a seat on Iola’s new city council.
Wicoff is the fourth candidate from Iola’s Ward 2, joining Melinda Luttrell, Dana Moodie and Beverly Franklin.
“The opportunity obviously arose from the change to the city council,” Wicoff said.
The new city council, when it is seated in April, will sport two candidates from each of the city’s newly redrawn voting wards.
The Second Ward covers much of the northeast part of Iola, east of Cottonwood Street and north of East and Carpenter streets.
Wicoff, 37, has lived in Iola for the past six years. His wife, Lisa, is an Iola native.
He worked at what then was Precision Pump for about a year and half, and for the past four years has run Deep Creek Engineering, which provides design and engineering consultation on a wide variety of construction projects.
“We have a good town in Iola, but there’s a lot of work that needs to be done to keep what we have,” Wicoff said.
Iolans have until noon Jan. 25 to file for any of the eight council seats, or for the mayor’s or city treasurer’s positions, which are voted on at large.
