Its hard to say for certain, but Iola may have just experienced the wettest 12-month stretch in the towns history.
A thunderstorm that blasted through the area early Tuesday dumped .61 inches of rain in Iola, followed by another thunderstorm with .65 inches by Friday morning, putting us at 46.83 inches of rain since Jan. 1.
It could remain bone dry for the rest of the year, and the city still would be more than 6 inches above a normal year.
Going back 12 full months, to mid-August 2018, Iola has seen more than 71 inches of rain.
For historical comparisons, 1973 was the wettest calendar year on record, with 63.36 inches of rain.
Years with historic floods, such as 1951 and 2007, brought 60.03 inches and 51.74 inches, respectively.
