Randy Weber, Allen Community College’s vice president for student affairs and the school’s athletics director, is resigning.
His resignation was accepted this morning by ACC trustees, who gathered in a special meeting.
Weber, 34, will become vice president for enrollment services at Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs, Colo.
“For us, this is the right fit for our family, and a professional growth opportunity,” Weber told the Register in a telephone interview.
Weber was married about a year ago, and his wife and stepson have family in the Denver area.
Going to Pikes Peak will mark other changes. At 20,000 students, the college has four campuses, but no residence halls or athletics, Weber said.
“So that will be a bit different for me,” he said.
Weber has worked at ACC for about 10½ years, the last five in his current capacity.
Originally from Hutchinson, Weber was recruited to Allen by former Red Devil women’s basketball coach Jason Kegler about an assistant coaching position. He accepted, left briefly, then returned as director of admissions and marketing.
Weber said it will be difficult to recapture the camraderie among ACC staff.
Weber attributes the Allen staff, administrators and trustees as vital components to the school’s decade-long stretch of enrollment growth.
“For about 10 years, we were the fastest growing school in the state, and now we’re dealing with that,” he said. “It could get stressful trying to accommodate the additional student services, but I wouldn’t have wanted to do that with with any other team than the one we’ve assembled here.
“I hope my experience at Pikes Peak is as special as it was at Allen.”
Weber also was active in the community, serving on Thrive Allen County’s Board of Directors.
