Voters dont have to wait until Nov. 5 to cast their ballots for various city and school board races.
Advance voting started today at the Allen County Clerks office in the courthouse, and will run up until noon Nov. 4. Election Day is Nov. 5.
County Clerk Sherrie Riebel said her office will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Oct. 25, and then from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 28 through Nov. 1.
The expanded hours are possible, Riebel explained, because she and her staffers will be in the office later than normal anyway, because they are preparing property tax statements, which also are released in early November.
Advance ballots also can be requested by mail, although Riebel encouraged voters to make their choices in person, if possible.
She noted mail service tends to lag at times, so ballots will not be mailed out to voters after Oct. 29.
Itd be impossible to get them mailed out and back to us in time after that, she said.
Mail-in ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 5 in order to be counted. Applications for advance ballots by mail are available by following the link to her office at allencounty.org.
