Local volunteers can work at concession stands at Chiefs and Royals games to help raise money for the annual Farm City Days fall festival and summer concert. There’s just one catch: You have to attend an orientation and the only local orientation is 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Iola High School Lecture Hall.

The Farm City Days committee wants between 25 to 30 responsible volunteers who are willing to work the concession stands at sporting events in Kansas City, and perhaps at concerts in the Kansas City area. At least 16 people are needed to work at each game or concert; the committee wants enough participants to rotate through assignments. The committee plans to participate in as many events as possible.

Tuesday’s orientation is expected to last between two and three hours. Bring photo identification like a driver’s license. You must participate in an orientation to be able to work the events; future orientations will be in Kansas City. Volunteers should be at least 21 years old, responsible and able to pass a background check.

The work is done on a volunteer basis only, with no monetary compensation provided to those individuals who participate. The Farm City Days committee will reimburse gas and expenses if necessary, but organizers hope to find large passenger vehicles to conserve fuel for the trips.

The first event could be offered as early as Thursday, for a pre-season Chiefs game.
